Frequently asked questions.
Do you accept insurance?
All providers at PSMHC are out-of-network providers. Clients are responsible for payment at the start of sessions, and can submit superbills to their insurer for out-of-network reimbursement. You should contact your insurance to determine if you have out-of-network coverage, and the extent of that coverage. Some insurers cover a percentage of session costs, while others will have a “maximum allowable rate” which they will reimburse. This will depend on your insurer and your plan.
How much will I pay for a session?
Session at PSMHC range from $50-250, depending on the provider with whom you are meeting. Each individual provider sets their own rates, and can offer sliding scale rates on a need-based basis.
Can I work with you if I am not located within New York State?
If you are not located within New York State, you can work with Peter under a life coaching agreement. Life coaching services are not reimbursable by insurance. If you experience a mental health or psychiatric emergency, you should seek therapy or psychiatric services from a provider located within your state.
All other providers at PSMHC are only available to work with in-state clients.
How frequently will we meet?
We ask that all first-time clients commit to weekly sessions at the onset of therapy. Further into therapy, we can assess if bi-weekly sessions would be appropriate. We do not meet with clients less frequently than every other week.
How long are sessions?
All sessions, including coaching, initial therapy consultations, individual therapy, and couples therapy sessions, are 45 minutes.
Do you offer in-person sessions?
Our practice works primarily virtually. Clients working directly with Peter have the opportunity to meet in-person once per month at an office located in Brooklyn Heights.
